Wines by vineyard
Weingut Rinklin - Kaiserstuhl
Stefan Rinklin started his own vineyard in 2007, after spending many years making fine wines at the famed Franz Keller winery. Stefan and his wife Miriana have established the 2 hectare vineyard in Botzingen, a small village on the southern slopes of the Kaiserstuhl, a volcanic outcrop near Freiburg, in the far southwest of Germany near to Switzerland and Alsace, France.
The climate, soils and topography are perfectly suited to producing burgundy wines of an excellent quality. The harvesting of the grapes is carried out by hand, selecting just the ripe and healthy fruit. The 2008 crop averaged only 60 hectolitres per hectare; this low return plus the gentle treatment in the winepress and cellar has resulted in the expressive, long finish characterized by Stefan’s wines.
The white wines are fermented in high grade steel tanks, giving a fresh, fruity character: the red pinot noir is always aged in oak barrels. Selected wines are then further aged in barriques, small oak barrels, to produce a rounder, more intense taste. All of the wines are very dry after fermentation, with negligible residual sugar.
Stefan has already achieved early recognition for his fine wines, leaping into “Gault Millau Wine Guide” in his first year.
